Contact Lens Tips for Snowboarders

Hey, contact lens wearing snowboarders -
Do you know how harsh dry mountain air can be on your eyes? Especially at altitude?

When I went to
Snowboard/Yoga Camp at Vail, I had such a bad contact lens problem I almost missed a day on snow. My eyes dried out, my contacts got foggy, and then I had to mess with my lenses using my fingers after rubbing capsaicin (hot pepper) cream into my sore muscles. OUCH!!
Here's some advice to help you avoid problems like that!
Lauren

1.  Remember to carry extra drops.
Dry air means contacts and eyes can dry out more quickly. For snowboarders on the go, Kevin McCallum (of 1-800 CONTACTS) recommends a multipurpose solution like Bausch & Lomb's ReNu Multi-Purpose Solution. This way, you only need one bottle for cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting, and storing your lenses.

2.  Always bring your prescription.
If you lose your luggage or your contacts, online retailers such as 1-800 CONTACTS can have new lenses to you in as little as 24 hours

3. Donšt forget to take proper care.
If youšre like most people, you wear your contacts longer than the prescribed period. People sometimes wear two-week disposables for three and even four weeks. In harsher climates, follow directions provided with the lenses

4. Wear goggles with UV protection.
Contact lenses donšt provide UV protection and arenšt a replacement for eye protection!  Bolle X500 Ski Goggles offer UV protected, phototropic lenses and have a light sensitive amber tint that darkens with increased solar intensity.

5. Know your rights.
If you need to visit an eye care provider (such as a vision center) while on a snowboarding trip, the doctor is required by law to give you your prescription (if you need a new one) at the end of the exam.  If he/she prescribes new lenses, make sure these are widely available not lenses only available from that doctor.  This ensures once youšre home, you can shop around for the best price.

1-800 CONTACTS is the world's leading seller of contact lenses. It provides consumers with a safe, simple, fast, economical and more convenient approach to purchasing contact lenses.
