SnowboardSecrets about Hunter:
(by Lauren)
Hunter Mountain boasts one of my favorite trails
anywhere in the East. "Belt Parkway" (wryly named for one of NY Cityıs major
expressways) is a long trail that swings around the mountain, with a
drop-off and a great expansive ever-changing view on riderıs left the whole
way down.
The pitch of Belt Parkway is just right to make it a smooth fast ride (but
not TOO fast.) Itıs always exciting, every time! Just watch out late on a
weekend day when the light is flat and you may have to dodge fatigued,
out-of-control crowds of sliders.
Go on a weekday, especially in Spring if you possibly can. Hunter usually
stays open until mid-April. Spring riding there is great!
"Hunter West" is a group of black diamond runs that take you down the back
of the mountain. "Way Out" is not terribly scary for good riders and brings
you to the quaint 2- seater lift at Hunter West where you can avoid some of
the crowds.
Hunter has a huge lodge. Besides the main room, there is the large
³Colonelıs Room² (on skierıs right), and the Plaza Café area, (skierıs left)
in the West Wing of the Main Lodge. A lively aprés ski scene congregates in
the Main Bar of the lodge on busy afternoons. Thereıs even a sushi bar.
There is a sunny outdoor deck too.
