The Snowboard Szine
Vol. 1, Issue 1
11/11/03
Welcome Readers -
To the very first issue of The Snowboard Szine. We can practically smell the snow that will be here soon in the Northeastern US. And we’re psyched!
It’s time to wax up your board, sharpen your edges, and dump out the mice that have nested in your boots.
Dig out your snowboard togs now and print out the gear checklist on our site at
http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/cheklist.htm so you won’t have to waste time looking for your socks and stuff when it snows!
Btw, we’ll try to keep this newsletter as short and juicy as possible. Who wants to be
readin’ when you can be ridin’? You can always go to www.SnowboardSecrets.com for more details.

1. Boston Globe Snowsports Expo THIS WEEK
The Boston Globe Snowsports Expo in conjunction with Ski Market will be held NOVEMBER 13 - 16, 2003
at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston, MA. tel. 617 825-5151 More info and a $3 coupon at
http://www.onthesnow.com/bewi/boston/boston.shtml
2. Where can you snowboard NOW?
First Mountains in the Northeast US to Open
Killington, VT - open NOW!
Tenney Mountain, NH - open NOW!
Okemo, VT - projecting November 13
Sunday River, ME - projecting November 14
Gore Mountain, NY - projecting November 15
Windham Mountain, NY - projecting November 15
Whiteface Mountain, NY - projecting November 22
Btw, Tenney Mountain has had a swath of snow open for riding since Oct. 4 through the magic of their new snowmaking equipment which freezes water inside the gun, making it possible to create snow when outdoor temperatures are above freezing.
There’s a cool article about Tenney and snowboarding in general in the
Boston Globe, from
11/09/03.
3. Best Website to Check for Opening Dates and Snow Conditions
The most-user-friendly site I’ve found to scan opening dates by state, and soon, snow conditions, is
http://www.boston.com/travel/seasonal/
Look for the blue box that says "Hitting the slopes? Resorts and conditions
around the region" Then click your state. If you’re a snow chaser like I am, a
site like this is valuable and quick to use.
If you’re looking outside the Northeastern US or Canada, click
http://www.onthesnow.com/ski/index.html
for conditions everywhere.
Do you have a favorite site for checking conditions?

4. New Snowboard/Ski Film on Tour - Teton Gravity Research - Dates Near You
"High Life", the drool-inspiring new extreme snowsports film from Teton Gravity Research (no relation to me) is touring the US.
New technical tricks, stunts, and death defying feats against gravity by snowboarders and skiers will keep you in awe.
"Definitely expect to see the most progressive skiing and snowboarding of last year’s season" said Steve Jones, one of TGR’s four co-founders. We had an unbelievable season, and a lot of big significant changes occurred in the sport."
For dates near you hit

5. Snowboard Secrets New Events Calendar
Once we started racing last season, we needed a centralized place to find snowboard races and clinics. We couldn’t find one, so we built it ourselves. Right now, we’re concentrating on the Northeastern US.
Go to
http://www.whatsonsnow.com/schedule.php
or hit the button that says "Events" on our homepage at
http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/
Watch for updates - the season is young and the mountains are just checking in now with their events.
6. Todd Richards in Playboy
See Olympic and all around crack snowboarder Todd Richards in the October issue of Playboy. See him clothed*, in a picture with me on my homepage -
http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/
At 5’9" tall, he’s a big dude for the halfpipe and for skating.
*(Sorry to disappoint, he’s fully dressed in this Playboy too!)
7. Feedback
Hey, this is the first issue. We don’t have any yet! But
just press "reply" if you have anything to say.
