1. Snowboarding Yesterday in VT

I was fortunate enough to get out on the snow yesterday for my first session of the season. It was the first weekend open for Okemo and Killington in VT. I rode Okemo.

Plusses of early season riding -

Very little traffic on the way up to VT (but a lot on the way down) Day lodges at the mtn, rentals, and snowboard shops not crowded

Lower lift ticket prices

Enthusiastic good riders on mtn., maybe more riders than skiers

Look Out For -

Fast aggressive (sometimes careless) riders and skiers whizzing by
Only a handful of trails open
Very hard packed snow late in day
Don't over-do it first day out

It was cold and sunny and we had a blast. I rode pretty hard (for me) and my quadriceps held up well. I'm glad I had sharp edges, and wax on my deck.

1a. Get in Shape for the Season!

I got in shape for this season with yoga, Pilates, wall sits, and the help of the new exercise page, designed for snowboarders here on our site.

http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/shapeup.htm

It's by exercise and conditioning experts Jean Sapula and Todd Gerkey.

There are short video clips on this page demonstrating how to do the exercises properly. You can also navigate there if you're on our home page http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/.

Just hit "Getting in Shape" on the left navigation bar.

Thanks Todd and Jean for doing a great job on this feature!

2. NEW Snowboard Registry - Stop Snowboard Crime

I've been so busy adding new features to our Snowboard Websites. I almost forgot to mention this. We are now ready to debut our free http://www.SnowboardRegistry.com

And we've already got ACTION!

Sadly yesterday one of our readers' Never Summer board (#144) was reported missing. You will see it on the registry, marked "MISSING." Here's how the registry works:

1. Register your board serial number and ID info online at http://www.SnowboardRegistry.com

2. If your board goes missing, report it to us and we'll post *MISSING* next to your serial number online. 3. Before you buy a used board check the Registry to see that it's not a stolen board. 4. If you or anyone find/s a board, report it to us and we'll try to get it back to its owner.

Any amount of Snowboard Theft is too much. Losing your ride is sad and expensive.

Join the snowboard community in helping stamp out snowboard crime. Register your boards ASAP at http://www.SnowboardRegistry.com Lock your board when it's out of your sight.

Once your board is gone it's too late for us to help if it wasn't registered.

"You Don't Have to Hurt Yourself to Snowboard" http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/secrets.htm

Speaking of which, I only took one tiny gentle fall yesterday, back onto my butt. But it was on an icy steep in the shade at the end of the day where everyone was falling.

And you know what I'm gonna say - I'm glad I was wearing my Azzpadz!
