1. U.S. Olympic Halfpipe Team will be announced at Mountain Creek, Vernon,
NJ Sat. Jan. 21 The final Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix halfpipe
competition at Mountain Creek next weekend will determine the U.S. Olympic
Halfpipe Team.
Hey Szine Readers,
Forgive me for the month-long gap in sending out the Szine. I've been out
riding 9 times, and busy with my Flexmeter Flexible Snowboard Glove and
Guard business. And I still haven't gone through the big pile of junk mail
from the last 3 months.
Anyway I wanted to make sure you know about the BIG event this weekend at
Mountain Creek, NJ. The US Olympic Snowboard Team will be chosen and
announced. Friday, Saturday and Sunday competitions are open to the public
and free of charge. (But if you don't have a lift ticket, you'll have to
hike up the hill.) I'll be there. Write me if you decide to go and maybe we
can all meet up!
If you go, remember you'll be climbing on slippery snow to watch the events
so wear good boots - your snowboard boots or others with traction. If you
have snow crampons for extra traction you might want to bring them. And it
will be dark, and possibly COLD! and you won't be moving around much while
spectating. So dress extra warm.
Mountain Creek is Danny Kass's true home mountain, where he grew up, before
moving to Mammoth, CA, so the crowds will go WILD for him.
Danny is nice to his fans. Look here -

We're rooting for Ross Powers too, after attending his snowboard camp a
couple of season back -
http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/rosscamp.htm.
And if Scotty Lago is a new name to you, you can get to know this smart
young New England rider from the Flow Team here -
http://www.snowboardprofiles.com/pro.php?id=13
Danny, Ross, and Scotty all look like locks for the team.
Here's the schedule:
3:45-4:15pm Halfpipe Finals Warm-ups
4:30-6pm Halfpipe finals
6:15-8pm Fountains of Wayne concert / Slednecks demo
8-8:45pm Olympic Announcement - Ceremony/Fireworks
If you can't make it, you don't have to miss out - NBC will air a one-hour
special of the Mountain Creek Grand Prix and Olympic announcement the
following day, Sunday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. ET. OLN will broadcast more
coverage during its "Ten Weeks to Torino" programming, Sunday, Jan. 22, at 5
p.m. ET
The Olympic Team is chosen from the results of the 2 earlier Grand Prix and
this one. The fields started with about 100 men and 50 women.
Scroll down to see the elite list of 25 men and 13 women (who will compete
in the pre-Olympic finalé for spots on the team), and their point scores. 16
riders will be chosen from the list below based on their performance points.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday competitions are open to the public and free of
charge and will feature a sponsor village filled with prizes and giveaways.
Both offer spectators an opportunity to see Olympic-caliber riding, right
here in our own backyard.
On Saturday, the entertainment kicks into full gear as the Olympic Naming
Ceremony will be fun for the whole family, and include a concert by
Grammy-nominated recording artists, Fountains of Wayne, sponsored by New
Jersey Travel and Tourism, and Red Bull will present the SCS Slednecks
Freestyle Snowmobile Demo, with some of the world's top freestyle snowmobile
riders pushing the sport to its limits. After the live Olympic team
announcement, the evening will be topped off with a fireworks display as we
wish the new U.S. Olympic Snowboard Team luck as they head for Torino,
Italy. On Sunday, don't miss the Fruit by the Foot Junior Jam as the
under-13s compete in the same halfpipe as their role models had the previous
night.
Following the second Grand Prix stop at Mt. Bachelor, OR, Shaun White
clinched a spot on the team, by claiming his third straight Grand Prix
victory. White, who wowed crowds and judges alike at the earlier
Breckenridge stop with back-to-back 1080s, dazzled onlookers Sunday as well.
As for what he'll focus on heading into Torino, White said he'll work on
incorporating three 1080s into his run, so the event in Jersey should be a
real crowd pleaser.
Gretchen Bleiler won her second Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix, landing
in the top women’s spot, with Hannah Teter and Elana Hight rounding out the
top three.
The U.S. Olympic Snowboard Halfpipe Team will qualify exclusively through
these three Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix events, with scoring based
on the best two out of five halfpipe contests. The elite field at Mountain
Creek has been determined by the results of the earlier contests and is made
up of those athletes best qualified to make the Olympic Halfpipe Team,
