1. Back from Snowboard Camp in French Alps

Just a teaser in this issue of the Szine, because I've got great pictures to post, and my webmaster is away on vacation this week. I had a super time re-visiting the French Alps in July for snowboard camp. The valley town of Les Deux Alpes is one of my favorite places on earth.

Weather and snow were awesome, and I was very happy at SMK Camp where the founder Eduardo Perez (http://www.snowboardprofiles.com/pro.php?id=68) aims to improve on all the other snowboard camps he has attended in the past. I was with a friendly and fun bunch of campers and staff, the camp food was very good, and it all happened during the crazy World Cup Soccer final matches that turned this international mountain town maniacal!
Check out the very cool website for SMK in English or Spanish.

Last session begins August 12.

Les Deux Alpes is reknowned to have the finest summer terrain park in Europe. In fact I ran into Bud Keene, US Olympic Halfpipe coach, coaching some kids from Vermont, at the top of the park. My regular readers know that I don't do big tricks. So what exactly do I do at snowboard camp when it's a terrain park camp?

Well, since I'm there to write about the camp and have a good time, I don't put much emphasis on anything too scary. I stay low to the ground. I make it a point to try not to get injured, because I can think of not much worse than ending up on crutches and having to make my way back to the States by bus, train, and plane travelling alone, as I was, with 60 lbs. of gear to move! To say nothing of what a bummer it would be to miss the rest of camp!

But you'll read about how I conquered the world's longest T-bar (seemed like it anyway) and learned to drop in to the pipe from the high side wall instead of riding in on the shallow edge, when I get my article posted.
Read about my embarrassing ride up the kicker too slowly, caught on film! Read about me unsuccessfully fending off the skiers who tried to join me on the T-bar halfway up. Stay tuned!

If you're interested in attending SMK summer snow camp, I'm happy to answer your questions by email.

2. Gathering of the Vibes - Aug. 18 -20, 2006

I eagerly await August's Gathering of the Vibes concert and campfest. I had such a good time last year at the show that I wrote "This was one of the best outdoor festivals I can imagine." Last year's article and pix at http://www.snowboardsecrets.com/Articles/vibes.htm

The 11th annual camping, arts and music festival returns to Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, (outside Albany NY) for the fifth consecutive year on the weekend of August 18th, 19th and 20th. It's a family-friendly music festival on a hilly green site (with a good energy vortex!) and with camping next to your car and a short walk to the grassy flat field where the music stages and food booths are.

If you like the Grateful Dead, you'll like the line-up, but the musical acts are eclectic and so much more than just jam bands. This year there will be some hip hop and reggae too! Drop me a line if you're going!

Gathering of the Vibes advance sale tickets are online now at GatheringoftheVibes.com. Tickets are also available at many Northeast outlets, including Strawberries, Coconuts and select FYE locations. Prices: $129.50/weekend camping pass. Savings available by purchasing tickets in advance.
Please visit http://www.GatheringoftheVibes.com for all festival information.

5. Adspace Available on SnowboardSecrets.com

"Follow your passion, and the money will come" is what they say.

Our snowboard websites are our passion. They have been ad-free until recently. Now we're ready to bring on advertisers with products that will be of interest to you readers. With an average of 44,000 page views per month, we have a loyal readership of snowboard and other sport lovers to offer our advertisers.

And frankly, we need to make some money. There are features and articles that need to be posted, and until I figure out how to produce some money from this site, I can't even pay my webmaster to post those articles.

So if you have a product and want to get the word out, let us help you do it by advertising on SnowboardSecrets.com. Rates are crazy reasonable for now, but will go up!

Please help out and send this to anyone who might want to advertise to a wide demographic of people who love to snowboard. Details available. Call or write.
Thanks! Lauren
